NAGC has developed a groundbreaking approach to authentic professional learning for gifted and talented educators. When you Take the LEAP, you direct your own learning, evaluate strategies, roll up your sleeves, and keep moving forward! NAGC fundamentally believes:
- Teachers are LEADERS in their own professional learning to improve their teaching and the outcomes of their gifted students.
- Educators choose EFFECTIVE practices, that they explore and evaluate practices that are relevant and responsive to the needs of gifted and talented students.
- Educators pursue ACTIONABLE professional learning and apply their knowledge and skills to create meaningful learning experiences for gifted and talented students.
- Educators PRACTICE constant self-assessment to evaluate and improve learning experiences for gifted and talented students.
What is LEAP?
LEAP is a professional learning framework rooted in NAGC’s belief that educators intentionally choose and lead their own learning and that of their students by using effective and actionable strategies that are applied through a cycle of reflective practice and improvement. LEAP stands for: Lead (with) Effective and Actionable Practice and represents the core tenets of the LEAP framework (see graphic below).

Using the LEAP framework as the foundation, each highly practical six-hour module offers evidence-based strategies alongside real-life implementation activities and opportunities for PLC/peer-to-peer discussions.

Curriculum Design for Teachers of Gifted and High-Potential Students
The LEAP Online Modules for Curriculum Design employ a proven learning structure that will guide and support you through developing and assessing the curriculum you use with high-ability learners. Each self-paced module includes readings, videos, unique application activities, PLC guides, and other resources curated by developers Christine Weber and Emily Mofield.
The modules also include new videos and contributions from top scholars and practitioners on curriculum design, including Cheryll Adams, Carolyn Callahan, Ashley Carpenter, Christine Dietz, Donna Y. Ford, Shelagh Gallagher, Kathy Gavin, Catherine Little, Jason McIntosh, Monica Meadows, Tracy Missett, Ann Robinson, Tamra Stambaugh, Joyce VanTassel-Baska, and Hope (Bess) Wilson.
The LEAP Guidebook for Curriculum Design for Teachers of Gifted and High-Potential Students is required to complete the modules. Upon the successful completion of a module, you will receive a certificate of completion to showcase your achievement.
