The Curious Classroom

John Spencer

Too often students leave school less curious than when they arrived. However, many teachers cultivate a mindset of curiosity. Their classrooms are bastions of creativity and wonder. These teachers empower students to ask questions, seek out information, and design solutions built on empathy. In this workshop, we explore what it means to spark ongoing curiosity through inquiry-based learning.

Equitable Programming for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Gifted Students

Michelle DuBois, Jolene Teske, German Diaz, Jen Flo, April Wells, and Dornswalo Wilkins-McCorey

Diverse gifted students are often overlooked in gifted education programs nationwide. We must respond to and support these students from various cultural backgrounds. This session will emphasize effective programming strategies for better inclusion.

Local Norms for Local Programs: Introduction, Identification, and Implementation

Karen Rambo-Hernandez, D. Betsy McCoach, Scott J. Peters, Matthew Makel, Daniel Long, and Lindsay Lee

Wondering where to start with local norms? We’ve got you covered! We will explore the rationale for why (and when) to use local norms, engage participants with real data to practice implementing local norms, spend time working through some of the common issues in implementation, and end with a Q&A to address participant questions.

Say Hi to A.I.: A Practical Approach to Integrating Artificial Intelligence in Education

Anthony Washington, Jessica LaFollette, and Shirley Farrell

This session underscores the role of AI in the classroom, emphasizing how it can practically enhance learning experiences by organizing, augmenting, and synthesizing information. We will explore ways AI can aid in the development of learning experiences and foster creativity-driven educational pursuits. Additionally, we will offer tools and strategies for the successful implementation of AI in teaching and learning contexts.

Thinking Wide and Deep: Practical Strategies for Differentiation in Core and Gifted Cassrooms

Tamra Stambaugh and Emily Mofield

How do we differentiate for students in ways that stretch their thinking and develop their talents? This hands-on workshop will introduce you to evidence-based models and “next day” strategies that can be used in the general and gifted classroom. How to Be Extraordinary and Happy

Kelly Yang

As a first-generation immigrant who came to the US without knowing a word of English at the age of 6, Kelly Yang overcame poverty and language barriers to enter college at the age of 13. She graduated from UC Berkeley and Harvard Law School and went on to start a writing program for kids and become the #1 New York Times bestselling, award-winning author of 11 children's books, including the FRONT DESK series. In this inspiring, heartfelt and humorous keynote, Kelly will talk about her journey as a gifted child, and how she accidentally became "extraordinary" by leaning into her imagination whenever she was bored. She will also speak on the effects of social media and how the current overstimulation of the brain has impacted kids, and share tips and strategies from her new book Finally Heard on how we can foster a healthier relationship with technology.

12:00 p.m.-3:15 p.m.: NAGC Postconvention Summits

Join outstanding experts for interactive, in-depth sessions that build on your convention learning. $125 per person; includes lunch (Separate registration required).
